Hartwood News
Hartwood CLT CIC is now a registered Community Land Trust
It’s official; We’re Hartwood CLT CiC Ltd!
After a great deal of effort and many hours of pouring over great volumes of bureaucracy, the Hartwood community has finally taken root in the form of a 'Community Land Trust'. This means that any land we may aquire can never be sold on for profit but belongs to the trust forever. We have chosen a co-operative structure to prevent speculative greed and maximise community control over our landbase. To find out more visit our forum. You will find the documentation on the forum in the section on Governance. Or visit the new Hartwood interactive website and feel free.
Being officially a not-for-profit enterprise allows us to access various funding sources without the activity restrictions and bureaucratic burdens of a charity. We are currently checking out the legal necessities for offering grant search on a commission basis on Hartwood's behalf. If you would like to register an interest in this paid work, please apply to Join the GrantSearch Workgroup on the forum at: http://forum.hartwoodcommunity.coop.
Hartwoods new blog/web site is now online and ready for your input.
http://www.hartwoodcommunity.coop
This is a brand new interactive blog/web site complete with open invite to design your own welcome page, there has been some participation already! It’s not too difficult:
There is a link at the top of the home page which invites you to publish your own welcome message to the world. You will need to log in or register to do this and then follow the simple instructions.
This idea has been setup as an open access blog, for all interested in discussing and promoting sanctuary and sanity. You are invited to create your own version of what you think Hartwood is, could or should be. The front welcome page of the site is chosen randomly from a pool created by users like yourself, and is different for every visitor, and every time someone visits the site. If you just wish to comment on other posts, you don't even need to login, but please try not to be too rude!
The Hartwood forum has remained unchanged apart from the forum address which is now: http://forum.hartwoodcommunity.coop. Please make use of the forum to express your ideas, discuss any issues you feel are relevant and simply find all manner of information about events and Hartwoods plans. It would be a good idea to refresh the forum address in your bookmarks folder.
Next Hartwood open meeting: Saturday 10.07.2010 at Falla Hall Farm, near Edinburgh.
You are able to view meeting updates, details of lift shares and contribute ideas on the forum in the evolt section here.
The next open Hartwood meeting is at Falla Farm near Edinburgh on the 10th July 2010. We will be meeting up with some of our members from thereabouts and welcome interested folk from all over!
The agenda is being developed by participants of the forum, but one of the more important points will be creating a plan/presentation to apply for a land-lease.
Further to be discussed is funding research which may entail opportunities for paid work,
Also our representation at various festivals throughout the summer.
Please try to arrive mid morning to give us time to land, relax, natter etc. Volunteers for child care rota to be sorted out now, contact Jen or refer to forum. Bring lunch to share so we can eat around 12 o'clock. We aim to start the meeting at 2pm. Gathering at 1.30pm so we can have prompt start - and finish.
An evening meal will be provided for a small donation of £2 for those who want to stay on, and there is space for camping if you want to stay over night.
For directions to Falla Farm and bus times from Edinburgh visit the forum post here.
Successful Fun Raising Expedition to Orkney in September 2009

Jen and the kids and a few friends completed a sponsored cycle round Orkney at the end of September 2009 and raised £105.00 for Hartwood. The aim was to cycle round as many ancient sites as they could. "The trip was amazing tho the weather was driech most the time, sometimes we were setting our tents up in the rain as well as the dark."
"We spent a week visiting interesting and beautiful places, and really feeling the history behind the land. Tho challenging at times, it was really manageable and I’m inspired to do it again... somewhere else and with warmer weather?"
Ae Forrest Gathering in February 2010

The fact that the meeting almost did not take place at all may have escaped some of us beforehand; there had been burst pipes and similar problems on and off for a week leading up to the day, and we were greatly relieved when the weather relented just in time and the pipes unfroze.
We met in the course of Friday afternoon on the 5th February 2010 at the Scout’s bunkhouse, which is administered by George, its founder and caretaker, and were so numerous in our attendance that we made no losses.
We managed to get comfortable enough, with the wood-burning range staving off the frost, to enjoy a pleasant evening meal and eventually, sleep.
Some very brave people even slept in tents or vans.

There were interesting contributions by a fundraising expert, Jason, and a planning officer, Jamie, who arrived next afternoon, but left us before dinner.
Jason had many useful suggestions to make regarding grants and funding, and Jamie also had an enormous fund of information on planning law and related issues.
A big thank you for their valuable contributions, and to everyone who was there for making it. In spite of the severe conditions we had some good times and a successful gathering.
Hullabaloo. A mini Hartwood festival in February 2010
The Hartwood Hullabaloo in the Soundhaus in Glasgow at the end of February 2010 was enjoyed by many, so we’d like to call it a resounding success.
We had a great turn out on the day and all of the hard work and generosity of the contributors went down exceptionally well.

Steve wrote on the Forum:
"Aye a HUGE thankyou to all the many people who worked so hard to create such a wonderful event. Humungous music from some exceptional bands, excellent crafts, teas and massage, lovely vibe all through, and we even raised some money!
I can't express my gratitude adequately for all the support and generosity we received from everyone.
It's been so great we'd like to do it all again!."
